Crucán na bPáiste

Set against the devastating backdrop of Ireland’s Great Famine in the 1840s, this song tells the heartbreaking story of loss and survival. With death sweeping through the land at an unimaginable pace, the dead—children among them—were laid to rest in mass graves. One such burial ground, Crucán na bPáiste (meaning "burial place of the children"), was reserved for the youngest victims. In the song, a grief-stricken mother mourns her child, powerless to save them from the cruel hand of fate. Overwhelmed by sorrow, she longs to have shared their fate but instead resolves to leave Ireland behind, seeking refuge in America, desperate to escape the haunting memories of all she has lost.
